A Farewell to Arms.Film Review.

“A Farewell to Arms” is a 1957 American drama film directed by Charles Vidor, starring Rock Hudson and Jennifer Jones. It is the second feature film adaptation of Ernest Hemingway's 1929 semi-autobiographical novel of the same name. The setting of the story is Italy.
Let's pass on to the plot of the film. Frederick Henry was an American ambulance driver, who joined the Italian army during World War I. He was seriously injured at the front and was sent to the hospital in Milan. He met Catherine Barkley, a Red Cross nurse, there and they fell in love with each other. They spent a lot of time together and later Catherine discovered that she was pregnant. After Henry's recovering,he returned to the front.Henry was caught by the Italian police who accused him of treachery leading to the Italian defeat. Knowing he would be executed, Henry jumped into the river and escaped. He found Catherine and they both escaped to Switzerland in a boat. Henry and Catherine lived a quiet life in the mountains, waiting the birth of their child. However, finally both Catherine and the child die. Frederic walks away alone in the rain alone in the world.
Speaking about the actors,I should say that cast of the film is perfect. Rock Hudson and Jennifer Jones were wonderful.  Rock Hudson was an ideal man,he volunteered on the Italian front, transmitted his disease and injury, wanted to marry his lover and live with her the whole life.He tried to hold his emotions, but the last scene was deeply touching,he couldn't hide his grieve. Jennifer Jones was so devoted to her man,she sacrificed herself. She was so sincere,so tender. Sometimes she was mad, because she was in love.
Besides, I should say, that director of the film made a good job.I can't but mention the realistic atmosphere of war, hospital. There are a lot of moments of war, showing massive, panoramic tableaux, and  a line of soldiers trooping through the mountains. The music, used in the film, is beautiful and pertinent.
Moreover, I can't but underline the episode when the priest stayed with patiences in the hospital. He knew that he would die,but couldn't leave them alone and continue to pray.Such behaviour is worth of admiration.
In conclusion, I'd like to say that I enjoy the movie, especially scenes of love. The moments of war were violent, the colors were gray and such moments were boring and unpleasant. All in all, this film is tragedy, but I prefer movies with happy end.

In Love and War

I would like to tell you about the film "In Love and War"directed by Richard Attenborough and starring Mackenzie Astin, Chris O'Donnell, Sandra Bullock, and Margot Steinberg. In Love and War is a 1996 romance drama film based on the book, Hemingway in Love and War by Henry S. Villard and James Nagel. This film takes place during World War I, and is based on the World War I experiences of the writer Ernest Hemingway.Furthermore, it’s interesting to point out that the film—apparently in a deliberate attempt to capture what the director called Hemingway's "emotional intensity"—takes liberties with the facts. In real life, unlike the movie, the relationship was probably never consummated, and the couple did not meet again after Hemingway left Italy.
Let's pass on to the plot. The young reporter Ernest Hemingway was sent to Italy as a soldier where he was wounded and sent to a military hospital. There he was nursed by Agnes von Kurowsky. They fell in love with each other and the woman promised to marry him after the war ends. Ernest returned to the United States while Agnes continued working as a nurse in Italy. She decided that her relation with Hemingway was a mistake and wrote him about it. Agnes was going to get married in Venice but changed her mind and was back to the USA. She visited Ernest and told about her love to him but the man rejected her love because she had hurt him earlier. They will never meet again.
Speaking about the actors, I should say that cast of the film is perfect. Chris O'Donnell and Sandra Bullock were wonderful.Their acting creates true, honest and real atmosphere. I believe their feelings! They acted so vividly like they were really fall in love with each other. And I think Chris O'Donnell  is good at showing Hemingway's trasformation from a sweet boy into a well-known writer. Sandra Bullock was perfect. She was very sensitive women, I believe her passion and love.
Besides, my favorite episode is the last one when Agnes came to Ernest. She realized her mistake and was ready to share her life with him but Ernest with his pride could not forgive her. It was awful! The two people, who couldn't live without each other, separated.
As for the main themes of the film, the theme of love, war, passion, heroism. The music also was beautiful. It creates romantic atmosphere.Outdoor scenes have majestic sounds full of horns and worthy of a vast symphony. In interior scenes we are treated to intimate violin serenades.
In conclusion I would like to say that the film impressed me and opened Hemingway from a new side.I imagine him a boring person, but he was kind, honest and interesting person.Costumes and decorations created the atmosphere of the war were perfect.

Discussion Questions. Higher Education

1) Entrance to British universities is via a strict selection process based on an interview. In America, students have to take a standardized test, such as the SAT or the ACT if they want to study at a college or university.
2)Universities, teacher-training colleges and polytechnics.
3) The USA: Students are given grades at the end of each course. The highest grade is A; the lowest is F, which means that the student has failed the course and will not get credit for taking it. To check a student’s overall progress, the university calculates a grade point average (GPA). Students who finish their degree with a high GPA may be awarded Latin honours, of which the highest is summa cum laude.
Britain: A first degree, which is usually an honours degree, generally takes three years. Most courses end with exams called finals. Results are given as classes (= grades): a first is the highest class, seconds are often split between upper second and lower second, and below that is a third. Graduates may add the letters BA (Bachelor of Arts) or BSc (Bachelor of Science) after their name. Some graduates go on to study for a further degree, often a master’s degree or a doctorate.
4)Students are given grades at the end of each course. The highest grade is A; the lowest is F, which means that the student has failed the course and will not get credit for taking it. To check a student’s overall progress, the university calculates a grade point average (GPA).
5)American students who want to study at a college or university have to take a standardized test, e.g. the SAT (Scholastic Aptitude Test) or the ACT (American College Test). Students from other countries  who are not native speakers of English must also take the TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language). Each college or university decides on the minimum score it will accept, though test scores are never the only factor taken into account.
6)Students in Britain formerly had their tuition fees paid by the state and received a government grant to help pay their living expenses. Now, they receive only a loan towards their expenses, and from 1999 most will also have to pay £1 000 a year towards tuition fees.
7)Grade Point Average (GPA) is a measure of how well you are doing in your academic studies.
8) School counselors help students in the areas of academic achievement, personal and social development, career development.
10)Many universities receive some money from the state.
11)Graduate (infml. grad) – a person who has completed a university degree course. Undergraduate (undergrad) – a student who is doing a university course for a Bachelor's degree.
12)To my mind, the oral exam is better than written one, because the teacher can help you, to put some idea into the student's mind.
13)Many of the students prefer written examinations to oral ones, because they can crib. Before the exam my group is in panic. We always prepare for our exams, but we are very nervous and afraid of the exam.
14) I'd like to study in Great Britain in order to improve my English,to know about their system of education from within.
15) It will be great  to choose different subjects,in which you are interested.

Problem
 Signs of problem
Your Solution to the Problem

1

examination

We need  need to assess the ability to learn: this type of exam or learning license (that tests this ability) would be more useful for students, employers and society in general. It shows which candidates are good at,  engineering, but it also shows actually which can think as an engineer.

I think the combination of written and oral exams is good. But it is necessary to develop the process of examination.
2
 preparation for the exam
tired face, sleepless nights etc. She is studying for 3 levels preparing for medical school. She works nights and weekends to prepare for her exams.
To my mind, health is very important in our life.So the girl should sleep and be calm, because she works hard.
3
 entrance to university
He lost his weight, he has big black rings under his eyes. He sleeps for 3 or 4 hours a day. He didn’t sleep at all during the last 3 or 4 days.
Entrance exams are the most troublesome time in the life of every student. But every person should try to cope with it. The person should sleep more and spend more time outdoors.
4
  the highest grade
He never thought of himself like a highflyer, he never excepted such high results.
Many students are not confident in themselves  not sure of their future results. The best way to overcome panic and to stay cool, get hold of yourself and be ready for any kinds of results.
5
 automatic checking of tests results
reduce the time of checking papers
I think, it is better when the exams are checked by people. Also people should develop automatic system in order to avoid many mistakes.

 2) As for my problems, first of all it is the lack of time. Every day I must learn something and reduce some thing that are more pleasant. Before exams I felt depressed and nervous. The best way to cope with it is to visit fitness club and do sport.

3)There are a lot of problems that students face during the process of their studying. First of all, these are problems with different subjects, lack of time to prepare for exam. Besides students can be misunderstood and lonely, they can't find friends and feel homesickness, because their parents are far from them. Moreover, when students work hard a lot of time, they feel depressed and don't have free time to do things that they like. So, it is very important to know how to cope with it and to be more confident. I agree with the statement “the travel of hardships” because you can't achieve anything until you work hard. However, students need some rest:go to party or do shopping,it is necessary.

For example in Iraq.In schools, grades are based on 20. Depending on the school and the grade of study, a good mark varies, but in most occasions 16 or higher is considered to be a good one.
This system of grading based on 20 is also common in universities, but sometimes percent scoring is also used in higher educational systems.
Grade       Scale 1      Scale 2      Description
18-20          A                5               Excellent

0-9.99         E/F                0                 Fail

In the Ukraine, they’ve gone in the opposite direction. Whereas they used to use a simple Russian 5-step grading system, in 2000, they introduced the 12-step grading system which goes like this:
12 - given only for significant achievements or exceptionally creative work
11 - the equivalent of an ‘A’ in the U.S.

Film Rewiev "Dangerous Minds"

I would like to tell you about the film "Dangerous Minds",directed by directed by John N. Smithsand and  produced by Don Simpson and Jerry Bruckheimer. The movie stars Michelle Pfeiffer as Louanne Johnson, Courtney B. Vance as George Grandey and others. It is based on the autobiography "My Posse Don't Do Homework" by former U.S. Marine Louanne Johnson, who took up a teaching position at Carlmont High School in Belmont, California, in 1989, where most of her students were African-American.
Let's pass on to the plot of the film. Louanne Johnson was  an ex-marine, who came to a Palo Alto high school in order to find a job. She was divorced with her husband and her friend advised her to be a teacher at this school. Her first day was terrible, because a classroom was full of tough and sullen teenagers, but her persistence made her to continue. The next day she wore a leather jacket and taught  them karate. The students showed some interest in such activities, but later began to behave in the same way they used to. She tries to lead them in the world of English Poetry.Louanne used the lyrics of Bob Dylan to teach symbolism and metaphor; once this is achieved, she progressed  to Dylan Thomas. Louanne rewards the students in different ways, using candy bars,a trip to a theme park or restaurant. During the work, she faced a lot of problems and difficulties with students and their parent and at the end of the school year she decided to go away. But students didn't want it. She stayed, because the students named her "bright".
Speaking about the actors, I should say that cast of the film is perfect. To my mind,Michele Pfeiffer is excellent in her role. She was absorbed by her work. She gave her heart and her soul to these students. Day by day she became closer and closer to them. She was so resourceful and  found different ways in order to attract students. And later she succeeded.
The film touches upon the problems of the lower classes of society. Such students didn't want to learn because nobody believed in them. They have the same rights as the others. The only thing they should do-to chose what they wanted: to live in poverty and drink every day as their parents or to be successful and well-educated. Their teacher helped them and tried to struggle with stupid parents and cruelty of the streets.
Moreover, we can notice that their teacher believed in them and tried to encourage. She saw that everyone of her students was talented. That's why she was able to imbue their lives with bright coloures, with poetry, with human values, with the sense of life.
In conclusion I'd like to say that the film impressed me greatly. It teachers us that every child is unique and is worth of respect. Also it shows that a bright person can change life of many people for better. So, it is necessary not give up.

Film Review "The Ron Clark Story"

I would like to tell you about the movie “The Ron Clark Story”,  directed by Randa Haines. The film stars Matthew Perry as Ron Clark, Brandon Mychal Smith as Tayshawn, Hannah Hodson as Shameika, and others. As for genre of the film, it is drama and action takes place in New York, the USA.
This film is based on the true-life story of Ron Clark, let's pass on to the plot. The school teacher, Ron Clark left his home and moved to New York in order to find a job. It was very difficult and firstly he worked as a waiter at a local restaurant. Later, he succeeded and got the job as a teacher in Inner Harlem Elementary School, where he began to teach aggressive, rude and violent children.  Ron Clark was glad to work in the most disadvantaged class at school. He tried to do best for his pupils, visited parents, helped with their homework after classes. It was really a battle between Clark and his pupils, but he didn't give up and believe in children and their success. That's why, several months later the man  became not only a friend for the children but also extend their  knowledge and change their lives to better. At the end of the school  year Clark gave the children tickets to the musicale Phantom of the Opera. All of children were very excited  the boy,Brandon  Smith, who was fond of  drawing graffiti, even drew a shape of a Ghost on the wall of his room, for which was beaten by his step-father. The teacher had found the way from this problem. As it turned out, the pupils got the highest score in the school and were very thankful to Ron Clark.
Speaking about the actors, I should say that cast of the film is perfect. And of course, Matthew Perry is excellent in his role as Clark. He was nominated for different awards, including  "Outstanding Made for Television Movie","Outstanding Lead Actor in a Miniseries or a Movie","Best Performance by an Actor in a Miniseries or Motion Picture Made for Television" and others. He was funny, open and kind-hearted. He was perfect in his comedy scene as well as in dramatic ones. He was full of determination to help these unhappy children. His yes shown with joy when  Shameika asked not to leave their school.  Matthew Perry is very talented writer,he was very convincing, I believed that he loved his job.
Besides, I should say, that director of the film made a good job.I can't but mention the realistic atmosphere of school,it's system and it's rules. Also, the including of romantic line made the film be more exciting. Moreover, children played perfectly! I believed them and experienced all their feelings and emotions.
In conclusion, I' d like to say, that this movie is worth watching! I admire  Ron Clark, because he gas achieved his goal in spite of difficulties. He is creative and enthusiastic, tries to find new methods in order to awake pupil's interest. He is not afraid to be laughable. He really love children and his job and it is worth of respect.

Laboratory Work 4

  1)  A man and a woman are talking about advantages and disadvantages of public and state schooling.State schools are free, but public schools are expensive. Mix of students study attend state schools and it is more interesting to communicate with them than only with rich children in public schools. It is no secret that public schools have better instructors and facilities. Education in public schools gives students a better chance of getting a really good job, because the best employers look for people first in public schools. So, I conceder that public schooling is better, because it gives the opportunity to a child to be successful and well-being in the future.

2) I'd like to compare the educational system of our country with the educational system of the USA. In Russia and in the USA children usually attend free public schools. Although, nowadays there exist private schools in the USA like in our country, where a fee is charged. Russia has a nine years compulsory education, but the USA requires twelve years of compulsory education. The nine year Russian education is called Basic Education. But in the USA it is not the same, Basic Education consists of Elementary School,a Junior High and the lower level of High School that are combined into one school.
As for the grades, our country uses a five-point academic grading system from 1 to 5,where 5 is excellent and 1 or 2 is poor.Academic grading in the United States most commonly takes on the form of five letter grades. Traditionally, the grades are A, B, C, D, and F—A being the highest and F, denoting failure, the lowest.
After nine years of education in Russia, students can continue their education (2 years in school) or go to Professional schools. These schools are very similar to High School in the United States.
Higher education is very important in both countries and nowadays the system of Higher education in our country is similar to the USA.

Laboratory Work 3

1)First of all , a child plays truant because of peer's influence. He mets his friends and they go to the cinema or to other place, where they can have a good time in stead of boring lessons at school. Besides, problems at school make a child to stay away from school. They don't want go to school when they don't learn the lesson or because of bad relationship with teachers.

2)

1-c
2-c
3-a
4-a
5-c
6-c
7-b

3) To my mind, more responsible parenting and more interesting lessons would be most effective in combating truancy. Family plays an important role in the life of any child, that's why parents should be interested in the life of their child. They should control their children's behaviour, visit parent meetings and call teachers to learn about their children's behaviour   and academic success. Of course, more interesting lessons will raise more motivation to go to school and the educational interest to the subject.

Film Review 4

                   The Great Gatsby

The Great Gatsby is a romantic drama film. An adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald's 1925 novel of the same name.It follows the life and times of millionaire Jay Gatsby and his neighbor Nick, who recounts his encounter with Gatsby at the height of the Roaring Twenties.
Cast:
Leonardo DiCaprio as Jay Gatsby
Tobey Maguire as Nick Carraway
Carey Mulligan as Daisy Buchanan
Joel Edgerton as Tom Buchanan
Isla Fisher as Myrtle Wilson
Elizabeth Debicki as Jordan Baker
Adelaide Clemens as Catherine
Jason Clarke as George Wilson
Amitabh Bachchan as Meyer Wolfsheim
Max Cullen as Owl Eyes
Brendan Maclean as Klipspringer
Jack Thompson as Nick Carraway's Doctor, Walter Perkins
Gemma Ward as Languid Girl
Callan McAuliffe as Young Jay Gatsby
Gus Murray as Teddy Barton
Stephen James King as Nelson
Director: Baz Luhrmann

Midwesterner Nick Carraway is lured into the lavish world of his neighbor, Jay Gatsby. Soon enough, however, Carraway will see through the cracks of Gatsby's nouveau rich existence, where obsession, madness, and tragedy await.

First of all I can say that I was waiting for this film.Jay Gatsby is a mysterious Long Island Millionaire with mob connections, who throws huge parties nightly in the hope that they will lure the now remarried love of his life.I have reached this novel and the film is not disappointed me.It is a wonderful, sincere film.
As for the cast,it is perfect. Reading the book I imagined the main characters, but these actors were  really tremendeous and impressive. DiCaprio carries the role off reasonably well; he is probably the only possible casting and Mulligan's Daisy has gentleness and vulnerability.Their initial intimate meeting over tea in Nick's cottage, has some charge, and DiCaprio and Mulligan handle it well.Joel Edgerton was very good!He is juxtaposed to Gatsby, the husband of Daisy,he was a real aristocrat!
I can't but mention the soundtrack of the movie. It conveys the atmosphere of that time, I can imagine the great parties, with dancing girls and with a lot of bottles of champaign. This song perfectly suits to this film.
I an deeply impressed by this film,it gives much room for meditation. As a reader and as a viewer I was very sad at the end of the film and the book.I really sympathize to Gatsby and the last phylosophical speech  was great. This film is very touching, exciting and highly - emotional.I will advice everyone to visit the cinema in order to watch this unique film!

The article under consideration is headlined "Eurovision song contest: Russian foreign minister wades into voting row". It is published on the website of the newspaper "The Guardian" on May,21 2013.The author of the article is Miriam Elder. The aim of the current article is to tell about the unfair voting in Eurovision song contest.
The author underlines that Russia's foreign minister has taken time out of a busy schedule to wade into a growing scandal over the Eurovision song contest. As it turns out that Dina Garipova, has been deprived of 10 points allegedly issued by the country's ex-Soviet ally Azerbaijan.
According to Lavrov that 10 points were stolen from our contestant during the Eurovision 2013 contest does not make us happy regarding the organisation of the event. But the outrageous action at Eurovision regarding the Russian contestant will not go unanswered.
The article reports that Garipova, who sang a ballad called What If, finished fifth with 174 points in the contest's final in Sweden on Saturday. She was 17 points behind fourth-placed Margaret Berger of Norway, so the extra 10 points would not have made any difference in the overall ranking.
Mammadyarov said on Tuesday that "a significant part of the Azeri population voted for the Russian singer", and said a full investigation would be carried out to see where the "stolen votes" went.
The author stresses that Azerbaijan's ambassador to Moscow tells that it was impossible that Garipova had not scored any points in his country. The gaudy Eurovision song contest is known for its highly politicised voting, particularly as it has grown in popularity in eastern Europe and Russia, where the event is taken very seriously.
The current article is concluded that this year Denmark's Emmelie de Forest won with 281 points for her song Only Teardrops, well ahead of Azerbaijan's Farid Mammadov who came second.
I have watched the Eurovision 2013,to my mind Dina Garipova looked so pretty. Her song was perfect as her voice.

The article under consideration is headlined "Eurovision prize goes to Denmark, but real winner is Swedish host". It is published on the website of the newspaper "The Guardian" on May 19,2013.The author of the article is Barry Neild. The aim of the current article is to tell about Eurovision 2013 and it's results.
Denmark's Emmelie de Forest, win with 281 points for her song Only Teardrops, well ahead of runners-up Azerbaijan. But it was not as convincing a victory as last year's winner Loreen, though, with Emmelie and her song Tear Drops picking up just eight maximum 12-point scores from the 39 countries voting compared to Loreen's 18 out of 42.The author underlines that the second placed Azerbaijan attracted more top marks, with 10 countries awarding the maximum for Farid Mammadov's performance of "Hold Me".
Ukraine came third and Greece was fourth with the rabble-rousing "Alcohol Is Free".Dina Garipova from Russia became the fifth with her song "What If".
The author stresses that Britain's Bonnie Tyler limped home with just 23 points. She was better than last year's vintage act, Engelbert Humperdinck, who was cruelly defrosted for the indignity of finishing second from last with a mere 12 points. But at least both of them fared better than Ireland, which came in last with only five points.
The current article reports that the show began with a film about a caterpillar becoming a butterfly while travellling from Azerbaijan to Sweden.France opened the show with the song "L'enfer et moi"Finland's Krista Siegfrids, meanwhile, ended her performance of Marry Me with an eyebrow-raising girl-on-girl kiss, but set women's equality back to 1977 with lyrics such as: "I'm your slave and you're my master."Then there was Romania's Cezar. Dressed like a vampiric Elvis, Cezar sang in an alarming falsetto surrounded by men and women dancing in tight lycra.
The current article is concluded that the true winner of the evening was the event's host, Swedish comedian Petra Mede, because he navigated perfectly Eurovision's unique blend of geo-political rivalries, deadly serious musical ambitions and camp nonsense.
I have watched the Eurovision 2013,to my mind Dina  Garipova was the best. She looked beautiful, her dress was smart, her song was perfect! To me, she is a winner!

Thomas Bangalter one of the influential French dance-musicians his musical partner, Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo, divide their time between Los Angeles and Paris, where their families live. The house in  Los Angeles is very rich and luxurious, the swimming pool, a small square of radiant Hockney blue, is visible through the glass walls. The house’s décor mirrors the retro-modern aesthetic that runs through every stage of Daft Punk’s 20-year career.
The author stresses that Daft Punk expanded the audience for dance music alongside late-‘90s peers like the Chemical Brothers, influenced Madonna and Kanye West, and helped shape the visual side of live dance music performance. They are famous for robot masks and spectacular pyramid-shaped stage set inspired the high-tech showmanship of younger electronic dance music stars like Skrillex.
The author underlines that   "Daft Punk's" new album is an analog flashback to the era of live musicianship, involving a crack squad of session players, the disco legends Nile Rodgers and Giorgio Moroder,  rockers like Julian Casablancas.
The current article reports that the promotional campaign for the album also looked back to an era before Twitter and free downloads.Daft Punk and its team orchestrated a suspense-building trail of hints about a new project with billboard ads and teaser minicommercials on TV.
Unfortunately,I have never listened the albums of  "Daft Punk".I think their new album will be successful!

Zlata Ognevich is a very beloved celebrity in Ukraine. She is no stranger to the Eurovision Song Contest.Last year, Zlata took part in the Ukrainian national selection where she came  the second. This year, Zlata will have the honour of representing her country again, this time in Malmö.
The article reports that Zlata was born in Murmansk, Russia. Her family later moved to Ukrainian (Crimea). Since then two passions appeared in Zlata’s life: the mountains and the sea. And a little bit later the third one: music. Zlata Ognevich is a stage name: Zlata means “gold”, ognevych – “fire”.
The author underlines that Zlata puts in a lot of hours at the studio, where she loves to experiment. A huge part of Zlata’s success comes from working with gifted composer and producer Mikhail Nekrasov and his team.
The author stresses that according to British bookmakers, Zlata is in with a good chance of coming second at this year’s Eurovision. However, she prefers not to think about places at all – she says she’ll concentrate on the song instead.
Zlata is not considered her the best, but she will struggle. She is  going to focus on the song. Nothing else but music. All she wants  that people will be amazed by it and will remember it.
Zlata Ognevic will perform the song “Gravity” on the first semi-final of the Eurovision Song Contest on May 14. The Eurovision final will take place on May 18.
Unfortunately,I haven't heardthe songs by  Zlata Ognevich. And as a patriot,I expect the winning of our Russian girl Dina Garipova.

The article published on the website of the newspaper "The Guardian" on May 2,2013 is headlined "Iron Man 3 smashes his way to the top at the UK box office".The article is written by Charles Gant.In the current article the author speaks about the third part of the film "Iron Man" produced by Shane Black.
The author stresses that the arrival of a monster hit invariably has an effect on other films in the market. Many films recovered ground after the previous sunny weekend – The Croods dipped just 11%, for example – others competing more directly with Iron Man 3 suffered.
The author underlines that Disney prepared Iron Man 3 for release, but a natural question arises would it perform like the first two instalments in the Tony Stark series, or could it fly close to the astonishing success of The Avengers last summer?
The article reports that Iron Man opened in May 2008 with £5.47m including £667,000 in previews. Iron Man 2 followed two years later with £7.66m including previews of £877,000, an increase of 40%. Then April 2012 saw The Avengers soar away with £15.78m, including £2.55m in previews – more than double the Iron Man 2 debut.Globally, the film has debuted with $195m, with the UK grabbing bragging rights as the top territory. However, the US, China, Russia and Germany are yet to open.
Thanks to Iron Man 3, the market is a handy 118% up on the previous weekend, but nevertheless 16% down on the equivalent frame from a year ago, when Marvel's Avengers ruled the roost.
The author emphasizes that with the rest of May seeing the arrival of Star Trek Into Darkness, Fast and Furious 6, The Great Gatsby, The Hangover: Part III and animation Epic from the makers of Ice Age, this coming weekend the market first pauses for breath. Iron Man 3 will continue to dominate as plucky contenders enter the fray, hoping to grab some counter-programming cash.
To my mind the competition between companies for producing films is great.Producers try to  do everything so that make their film the best. And result may be unforeseen.

Film Review #3

Argo is a 2012 historical drama thriller film directed by Ben Affleck. This dramatization is adapted from the book The Master of Disguise by CIA operative Tony Mendez, and Joshuah Berman's 2007 Wired article "The Great Escape" about the "Canadian Caper",in which Mendez led the rescue of six U.S. diplomats from Tehran, Iran, during the 1979 Iran hostage crisis.
    Cast:
Ben Affleck - Tony Mendez
Bryan Cranston - Jack O'Donnell
Alan Arkin - Lester Siegel
John Goodman - John Chambers
Taylor Schilling - Christine Mendez
Victor Garber - Ken Taylor
Tate Donovan - Bob Anders
Clea Duvall - Cora Lijek
Scoot McNairy - Joe Stafford
Rory Cochrane - Lee Schatz
Christopher Denham - Mark Lijek
Kerry Bishe - Kathy Stafford
Kyle Chandler - Hamilton Jordan
Chris Messina - Malinov
Zeljko Ivanek - Robert Pender

Ben Affleck - Director, Producer

Synopsis:
The film shows the real life of the Iranian people during the revolution, when dozens of Americans were held captive in the U.S. Embassy in Tehran.  Only six embassy workers escaped the building and had to seek refuge in the Canadian ambassadors home. The U.S. and the CIA began developing ideas for how to extricate those six individuals. Tony Mendez would put together a fake Hollywood production, a "science fantasy" in the style of Star Wars, and represented the six Americans as his Canadian team for creating the film.
Review:
No doubt, Ben Affleck is the best director and his film “Argo” has rightfully earned the highest award.  On the one hand it is captivating, expertly machined political thriller,on the other hand it’s a and an ingeniously written drama that reveals the unknown historic events. And at the same time, the film contains a lot of funny moments. It is impossible to ignore this film! It's a cinematic feast, exciting and tense action drama!
I can’t but admire the main character of the film, who ran risks in order to save people from a cruel death. He was brave, determined, and witty. Together with him I sympathized with these people, who were tired to live in foreign country in constant fear. It was impossible for Mendez to stay them even when the government decided not to risk the reputation of the USA and sacrificed them. Tony was confident in the success of the operation and he made others to believe.
The film keeps the viewer in suspense, it made me cry, when at the end, I saw happy faces of the liberated people, who was sure in their successful future. To my mind this film is very patriotic for American people. It shows that in difficult situations Americans join their efforts to overcome all obstacles and to save their citizens.

The author underlines that Lily James stars as Lady Rose MacClare in the popular ITV period drama Downton Abbey. And now she takes lead in the Kenneth Branagh-directed live-action version of the fairytale.
The article reports that the film is the latest in a series of live action Disney fantasies which began in 2010 with the enormous box office success of Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland and continued earlier this year with Sam Raimi's Oz the Great and Powerful.
The author stresses that screenwriter Aline Brosh McKenna of The Devil Wears Prada fame has written an initial draft of the script. There is no word on whether the roles of the ugly sisters and Prince Charming have yet been cast. Lisa in the Noel Clarke-directed athletics drama "Fast Girls" stars alongside Cate Blanchett as the wicked stepmother in Cinderella.
The article reports that Harry Potter's Emma Watson was at one point in talks to play Cinderella, but a deal was never done.
The author told that "Oz the Great and Powerful" is the year's highest-grossing film so far, with more than $480m at the global box office. Disney is currently shooting Maleficent, a revisionist live-action take on the story of Sleeping Beauty with Angelina Jolie in the title role, for a 2014 release date.
As for me,I would like to watch the new fairytale about Cinderella.I watched  "Oz the Great and Powerful"and frankly speaking,I am deeply impressed. It is a kind and lovely movie!

The author describes the main character Germain, who is a high school teacher. He attends a Woody Allen movie with his wife, Jeanne, a gallerist played by Kristin Scott Thomas. Though the movie is clear enough that Germain might be one of his lost alter egos, a character ensnared by his own desires and a willful inability to distinguish reality from fantasy.
The author stresses that based on a play by the Spanish writer Juan Mayorga, “In the House” weaves a pleasant and clever spell, manipulating the viewer much in the way that Claude plays with Germain. The viewers are never quite sure if the boy is writing truth or fiction — the scenes he composes are no less “real” than anything else in the movie — or whether the remarkable events he reports are embellishments or outright inventions.
The author of the article underlined that the dexterity of the actors and their director is not quite enough, and as “In the House” accelerates, it also starts to sputter, piling on incidents and revelations that cause its web of implications to unravel.
The article reports that if you are like the main character that might drive you crazy; if not, you might just start to feel tired.
Having read the article I would like to watch this film,to my mind it is very contradictory.

Film Review 2

                                          Anonymous

Cast:
  • Rhys Ifans as Edward de Vere, 17th Earl of Oxford
  • Vanessa Redgrave as Elizabeth I of England
  • Sebastian Armesto as Ben Jonson, poet and playwight
  • Rafe Spall as William Shakespeare
  • David Thewlis as William Cecil
  • Edward Hogg as Robert Cecil
  • Joely Richardson as young Queen Elizabeth
  • Paolo De Vita as Francesco
  • Robert Emms as Thomas Dekker, dramatist
  • Tony Way as Thomas Nashe, poet and satirist
  • Helen Baxendale as Anne de Vere
Directed by Roland Emmerich.

Synopsis:Anonymous is a historical film that that suggests Shakespeare was a fraud.Edward de Vere was an aristocrat who had a great talent to write the wonderful plays, but due to social and political constraints he couldn't mention his name as the author. That's why drunken, illiterate, fame-hungry actor William    passed off the plays as his own.Shakespeare however, having discovered the real author's identity, extorts money from de Vere to build the Globe Theatre. The film is full of intrigues that happened at Elizabeth's court.
Review: Throughout the ages experts have debated, books have been written, and scholars have devoted their lives to protecting or debunking theories surrounding the authorship of the most renowned works in English literature, especially works of Shakespeare. Anonymous poses one possible answer, focusing on a time when cloak-and-dagger political intrigue, illicit romances in the Royal Court, and the schemes of greedy nobles hungry for the power of the throne were exposed in the most unlikely of places: the London stage.
The cast is strong. And the most pleasing aspect of ‘Anonymous’ is its sheer sense of humour. Anonymous is an historical thriller because it was a battle for power between Tudors on one side and the Cecils on the other.
To my mind the film is great!I was absorbed in the atmosphere of Elizabethan England, got to know a lot about the culture. This is a visually stunning movie with wonderful costumes and incredible set dressings. I don't agree with the history of   Shakespeare that have shown in the film, but costumes, music and acting are worth of seeing.
